Term 6 week 5

Water water everywhere…

Absorbency, osmosis, dilution - offering plastic test tubes created a lot of science questions, and a lot of scientists!

Following on from last week’s stitches, I spoke about weaving and joining with wraps - however the children almost universally had other ideas!

Stuffing the test tubes with colourful materials, or creating coloured water with the help of marker pens and finding ways to stop spillages was MUCH more interesting.

This is the beauty of the way I am working - I may arrive with an idea of how the materials will be used, but be blown away by the invention, exploration and learning that we see. It is sometimes difficult not to impose our artistic or aesthetic ideals on to children, but they’ve got plenty of their own. And if we give them the freedom to explore them, the satisfaction and pride they feel is a privilege to witness.
