Painting on unusual surfaces

This week we’ve been painting.

I brought watercolour palettes plus a stack of high pigment coloured pencils for the children to use, but i offered some unusual surfaces to paint on.

There was paper but it was taken from the pages of a book, so it had words on it already - how would we work with this? Ignore the words? Pick out choice words or phrases to accentuate? Read them and take the story as our inspiration...?

I also offered a piece of white linen fabric and a wooden circle - all different absorbencies and textures to paint on.

There are always squeals of delight when the paints come out, I hope everyone made it home relatively clean? They were all wearing aprons I promise….
