COLLAGE: START FROM SCRATCH

I asked Art Club to start from scratch; to make their own materials to collage.

I won’t pretend that there weren’t a couple of incredulous noises, but i explained how they might take this chance to build their artwork from the beginning without me choosing their materials.

I asked for freedom with the pens, to try not to to draw but to use pattern, line & shape to create designs on lots of plain stickers. Then i asked for them to be cut up, rearranged, re-designed to create more layers of design. We used permanent markers, paint pens, sign writers and gel pens on top of and around each other, experimenting with ideas and effects.
